OAKLAND — The Alameda County District Attorney’s office has filed murder charges against a 30-year-old man who was arrested on suspicion of murdering his neighbor late last month.
Anthony Woods Jr. is being held without bail at Santa Rita Jail in Dublin on charges that he murdered Lajuan Andre Barnes last month. A police investigator wrote in court records that the motive was “perceived transgressions” involving the two neighbors, without elaborating.
Woods was arrested on September 24, the same day he is accused of shooting Barnes. Police said at the time that around 4 p.m. Sept. 24, Barnes was shot and killed on the 1400 block of 77th Avenue, near International Boulevard, in Oakland.
Police say Woods drove away in his car after the shooting, but was arrested hours later when he pulled back into his driveway. The shooting was captured on video by a resident’s home security camera system, authorities said.
At some point during his contact with police, Woods allegedly admitted to shooting Barnes, the police probable cause declaration says.
Woods’ next court appearance, where he is expected to enter a not guilty plea, has been set for Oct. 23 at the East County Hall of Justice, in Dublin, according to jail records.
