Al Pedrique will not be returning to the Oakland A’s as their third base coach.

Pedrique had been with the A’s organization for three seasons, including as first base coach in the 2018 and 2019 seasons. He shifted to third base in 2020 after third base coach Matt Williams’ offseason departure to South Korea, where he now manages the Kia Tigers in the KBO League.

Before joining the A’s, Pedrique worked as a third base coach with the Arizona Diamondbacks in 2004 and was interim manager that year for 83 games. The 60-year-old coach spent time in the Houston Astros front office from 2005 to 2007, and was hired as their bench coach in 2009. In years prior to his time in Oakland, Pedrique spent time managing and coaching minor league teams within the New York Yankees organization.

The A’s could hire from within or find an outside voice to fill the third base coach spot. Reports say quality control coach Mark Kotsay is being considered. Former A’s coach Chip Hale, who was recently let go as the Washington Nationals’ bench coach, could also be considered.
